Legendary football commentator John Motson has called the current Manchester City side the best he has ever seen.
Motson is set to switch off his microphone at the end of the season after 48 years of broadcasting.
The 72-year-old has been to ten World Cup finals, commentated on 29 FA Cup Finals, as well as more than 200 England internationals.
But after all those years, there is one side who has impressed him more than most – Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team.
The Citizens are racing towards the Premier League title and are in the quarterfinals of the Champions League already.
And ‘Motty’ (as he is affectionately known) has heaped praise on them whilst speaking to talkSPORT at Day Three of the Cheltenham Festival.
He said: “Manchester City at the moment in the English game have far out-reached anybody I’ve seen before.
“I just think Manchester City have taken us onto a new planet.”
Since his first radio commentary in 1969, Motson and his trademark sheepskin coat have travelled across the globe to watch some of the finest footballers of the past 50 years.
But there was just one man who stood out more than most.
“Paul Gascoigne, if you’re talking English,” he said.
“Eric Cantona, Thierry Henry... But Cristiano Ronaldo was the best player I ever saw.”
