Pep Guardiola has admitted his Manchester City side are ‘so close’ to winning the Premier League title.
The Citizens beat Stoke City 2-0 on Monday night and moved 16 points clear at the top, thanks to a double from David Silva .
While Guardiola has often remained coy on his side’s chances of winning the title, he admitted after the game at the bet365 Stadium the title is almost theirs.
He said: “To be successful you have to be professional and serious.
“We knew important it was to win that game, to be there, to be close.
“To have 81 points on the 12th of March it’s a lot points! The first teams normally get 80 points is almost champion.
“So eight games left, we have to win three or two if we are able to beat United.
“So we are really close.”
City will be crowned as Premier League champions at home to close rivals Manchester United on April 7 if they win that game, and away to Everton the weekend before.
