FC Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa wants Newcastle United target Iker Casillas to sign a new contract.

The 36-year-old is out of contract in the summer and he is stalling over signing fresh terms.

Newcastle have since expressed an interest in the Spaniard as Rafa Benitez wants to bring him to St. James’ Park.

However, Pinto da Costa has now revealed that he is hoping to keep hold of Casillas by offering him a new deal.

“I would like Iker to continue, anything is possible,” Pinto da Costa told Marca.

“I am very happy with him and the contributions he has made to the club since joining us from Madrid, he is an exemplary role model.

“A character like Iker is huge for the dressing room considering what he has won and achieved throughout his career so we will assess the situation.”
