Liverpool have a great chance to go all the way in the Champions League this season, Chris Kirkland has told talkSPORT.

The Reds booked their place in the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009 on Tuesday night, as a 0-0 draw with Porto at Anfield meant they progressed 5-0 on aggregate.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been in fine form in recent months and are one of the most prolific goalscoring teams in the whole of Europe this season.

Their front trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have 68 goals and 31 assists between them alone.

And former goalkeeper Kirkland believes their lethal attack and improved defence can see the club a surprise sixth European Cup.

“I fancy Liverpool,” the former Red told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on Wednesday.

“That’s not being biased, I just think with the confidence of the team and what Jurgen has done, you can see there’s a spring in their step.

“Obviously Manchester City have got every chance as well, but going off seeing Liverpool – I go to a lot of their games – nobody will fancy coming to Anfield, that’s for sure.”

Liverpool drew 0-0 with Porto at Anfield on Tuesday night

Asked if he believes clubs will fear Liverpool in the quarter-finals, he said: “They should do.

“We’re playing with confidence at the moment and it’s not just scoring goals, but the defence now is looking a lot more solid.

“Hopefully they can progress. They’re in the last eight now, so you’re playing against the best teams.

“On the day, any one of those teams can beat anybody, you just need that little bit of luck on the night.

“The games are going to be fantastic to watch, whoever you draw.”
