The FA should allow Pep Guardiola to wear yellow ribbon, MP tells talkSPORT

The Football Association should 'show more common sense' and allow Pep Guardiola to wear a yellow ribbon, Damian Collins MP has told talkSPORT.

The Manchester City manager is facing an FA charge of 'wearing a political message' for sporting the symbol on his clothing in support of imprisoned Catalan politicians.

FA chief executive Martin Glenn found himself in hot water on Monday after he, in an attempt to justify Guardiola’s charge, appeared to equate the Star of David with a swastika.

Glenn was widely criticised from his "ill-judged", "offensive" and "inappropriate" comments and the FA boss later issued an apology.

Collins, chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee, joined the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast to discuss the situation and says the Man City boss should be free to wear the yellow ribbon.

“That was a mistake, certainly to use those comparisons,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“It’s not like he’s wearing a slogan, it’s a small symbol that has meaning for him particularly with his links to Barcelona.

“It’s something to do with the politics of another country, not this country.

“I think a bit common sense should be shown here.”
