Former Arsenal and Celtic player John Hartson has said he is not surprised Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has been linked with the Arsenal manager’s job.

The Gunners played poorly in their 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at the weekend leading to speculation surrounding Arsene Wenger's future.

Rodgers is one of many names rumoured to be the Frenchman’s successor due to the amount of success he has had with the Bhoys including the Scottish League Championship, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup crowns last season.

Rock and roll legend Sir Rod Stewart told talkSPORT that Rodgers would be the ideal man for the Tottenham job if Mauricio Pochettino leaves the club.

And Hartson, who briefly played under Wenger claimed Rodgers is a top manager who will always be linked with the top jobs.

On the Arsenal rumours, Hartson said: “It doesn’t surprise me. He’s a top manager and he will get linked with jobs.

“I know Scottish football gets criticised but he’s on the cusp of winning his second treble with Celtic. They made progress in Europe by getting through to the Europa League by beating Anderlecht in the Champions League .

“Brendan Rodgers is a very sought after manager. Celtic want to keep their manager who is absolutely revered up there for doing such a great job.”

Rodgers made a name for himself after guiding Swansea to an impressive eleventh-placed finish in the Swans’ first ever Premier League season in the 2011/12 campaign.

The Northern Irishman was then snapped up by Liverpool in May 2012 and nearly won the Premier League with the Merseyside club in the 2013/14 season.
