David De Gea will commit his future to Manchester United , and end speculation over a possible move to Real Madrid , by signing a new deal with the Red Devils.
The Spaniard is regarded by many as the best goalkeeper in the world and proved his class once again in United’s 0-0 draw with Sevilla in the Champions League this week.
His importance to the club was highlighted by a string of superb saves as he singlehandedly kept United’s European hopes alive.
The 27-year-old has been constantly linked with a return to Madrid with Spanish giants Real – De Gea came through the ranks at rivals Atletico and still has strong ties to the city.
Los Blancos have openly pursued the goalkeeper over the last three years and he almost joined them in the summer of 2015.
But, according to The Times, De Gea has now decided his future lies at Old Trafford and he will pen a contract extension to remain at the Premier League club.
De Gea’s current contract only has 18 months left to run, but it is claimed talks between the player and club are progressing well, with an offer of a new £220,000-per-week deal on the table.
United are hoping to tie down the goalkeeper’s long-term future, with his new terms likely to keep him at the club until 2021 and perhaps beyond.
