The Red Devils are favourites going into their Champions League round of 16 tie against the Spanish side – but one statistic will have supporters sweating into their sangria pre-match.

Manchester United have an excellent record in European competitions, winning the European Cup/Champions League on three occasions, while also lifting the Europa League last season and claiming the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1991.

Overall, in the European Cup/Champions League alone they have won an extraordinary 150 matches since throughout the competition’s incredible history.

But a trip to play Sevilla may strike more fear into Manchester United than it usually would.

In all European competitions the club have battled Spanish teams on 50 previous occasions and it turns out their record is less than impressive…

Their regular battles with Real Madrid and Barcelona – 22 in total - have given their record a huge dent, but their win percentage against other Spanish clubs also leaves a lot desired, as you can see below…

So, can Manchester United buck the trend tonight and start their Champions League round of 16 match against Sevilla with a win?
