Amazing fact: Tottenham flop does something in LaLiga not even Messi has done

Barcelona were the laughing stock of the football world when they completed the signing of Paulinho over the summer.

Despite being a relatively consistent Brazil international since 2011, he is most well-known on these shores for his hilariously bad spell with Tottenham Hotspur .

Paulinho somehow managed to play 67 matches for the north Londoners, despite the fact that he appeared, at times, to not actually be a professional footballer.

His shooting was woeful and he was lazy and lethargic, and he was eventually flogged to Guangzhou Evergrande of the Chinese Super League.

Sure, he was a good performer in the CSL, but few would claim that makes him a top player considering the rather variable quality of Chinese football.

But clearly Barcelona saw something in him, and they spent around £36m to buy him in August 2017.

Since then, Paulinho has proven all doubters wrong; he has scored eight goals in 34 matches for the Camp Nou club, and has established himself as a key player for Ernesto Valverde’s champions-elect.

In fact, Paulinho now holds a LaLiga record unmatched by anyone else in the history of Spain’s first division - even legendary figures Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi .

The 29-year-old has become the player to feature in the most LaLiga games (23) without losing a single one.

He has played in every league game since his signing, except for the opening match of the season against Betis as he was not registered following his arrival at Camp Nou.

In that time, Barca have won 18 and drawn five matches to sit seven points clear at the top of LaLiga - and an incredible 17 points ahead of fierce rivals Real Madrid .
