Chelsea boss Antonio Conte hinted Olivier Giroud could be rested for the crucial Champions League game against Barcelona on Tuesday.
Giroud scored his first goal for the Blues, as Conte’s side easily dispatched Championship strugglers Hull City 4-0 at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
Despite scoring and assisting on the night, it appears the France international could be dropped in favour of Alvaro Morata.
Giroud, who arrived from Arsenal last month, received a standing ovation as he was replaced for the Spaniard but could find their roles are reversed in midweek.
Speaking after the game, Conte said: “He’s improving, he is proving his form and he needs to play.
“But, at the same time... Alvaro [Morata]?
"We have a game in three days against Barcelona.”
Willian was the star of the show against the Tigers, scoring another two excellent goals in the same week he received the Goal of the Month award for his strike against Brighton last month.
And it appears he may have done enough to work his way into the Italian’s team selection after his man-of-the-match display.
“Today I saw a couple of players that are in good form,” Conte continued.
“For this reason I think I have to take the right time and to make the best decision for the game against Barcelona.
